The Most Famous Museum

May 21, 2008 - Paris, The Louvre

Stuck close to home in our apartment this morning, doing computer work with Bobbie. We watched Mary Ann's cute slide show and shopped again at Monoprix. I bought some cute souvenirs.
In the evening, we went to the Louvre. They have a special rate on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It was evening by the time we got there and the sky was getting dark. The main entrance is via escalators, which are located inside the impressive glass pyramid in the center of the main courtyard.

Together, we paid homage to three world-famous icons: Venus de Milo, The Winged Victory and The Mona Lisa. The one which moves me to tears to see in person is the Winged Victory, or "Victory of Samothrace". Even headless and armless, she evokes such a sense of strength and courage!

After seeing these important pieces, we split up and went our separate ways. I went to the French paintings wing. Oh my! It is Huge! I walked and walked it seemed endless marble hallways and still did not see it all. It was exhausting! My mind was reeling, and I cannot even tell you the names of the paintings or painters I saw! After my very full day yesterday, I think my "creative drive" found itself in neutral gear!
We met up again in the small coffee shop inside the museum. We met a cute couple from Australia. They recommended the Marie Antoinette show in the Grand Palais.
When we left, the pyramid was lit in the evening. It looked beautiful.
